“COVID-19 aid to the private sector should have been sized as an opportunity to impose very strong conditions on companies that are bailed out with taxpayers’ money. Countries should have imposed conditions related to where the companies pay tax, how they reduce the gaps between the highest and lowest wages paid or how they move towards ecological transition. Very few countries have done so and I hope they will do better in the future”
