Watch the UN Special Rapporteur deliver a message on June 5, 2020 (starting at 14:19), on the occasion of a Global Panel Discussion organized by the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification.

In his message, Olivier De Schutter discusses the numerous synergies that exist between the fight against poverty and inequality and against climate change. These synergies, he explains, must guide the economic recovery plans of governments responding to the economic crisis resulting from COVID-19. He will present this message, part of his upcoming thematic report on the Just Transition, at the UN General Assembly in October 2020.

The event was streamed online on Friday, June 5th, concurring with World Environment Day. During the event international experts, economists, politicians, and public figures will debate on these topics and on the relations between them.
