20 March 2024:

Negotiations for the next global development goals, starting with the Summit of the Future in September 2024, provide a historical opportunity to rethink our fight against poverty and inequalities while opting for a development model consistent with the need to remain within planetary boundaries.

On the International Day of Happiness (20 March 2024) and on the sidelines of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, the UN Special Rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights, Olivier De Schutter, and guest speakers debated a new approach to eradicating global poverty that goes “beyond GDP” to focus on what matters to people, their well-being and their human rights.

Moderated by:

Ambassador Christian Guillermet Fernández, Permanent Representative of Costa Rica to the United Nations in Geneva

Speakers:

Ambassador Tenzin Rondel Wangchuk, Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Bhutan to the United Nations in Geneva
