Negotiations for the next global development goals, starting with the Summit of the Future in September 2024, provide a historical opportunity to rethink our fight against poverty and inequalities while opting for a development model consistent with the need to remain within planetary boundaries.

On the International Day of Happiness, join the UN Special Rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights, and guest speakers, as they debate a new approach to eradicating global poverty that goes “beyond GDP” to focus on what matters to people, their well-being and their human rights.

Moderated by:

  • Ilcheong Yi, Senior Research Coordinator, Alternative Economies for Transformation, United Nations Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD)
  • Julia Steinberger, Professor of Ecological Economics, University of Lausanne
  • Olivier De Schutter, United Nations Special Rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights
